A Vision for Healthcare Unveiled: Introducing the IKIGAI Network
Part I: Begin with the tech in mind

As technologists working hand in hand with physicians, we could not be more proud to showcase the powerful capabilities baked into the IKIGAI Network as already applied to industry at this early stage.
The IKIGAI Network, forged by a partnership of VC’s, entrepreneurs, blockchain and AI technologists, and world class healthcare practitioners, is reinventing the infrastructure for healthcare in a new decade kickstarting what has been termed the OpenHealth movement. To support this initiative, the teams and communities behind the IKIGAI Network have created multiple applications for the frontline providers defending our borders, cities, and hospitals from COVID19.
This article demonstrates an end-to-end workflow of how physicians are using decentralised technologies built in accordance with the principles of the OpenHealth Movement (open data sharing, open source development) enabling this exciting new future in healthcare today.

Now, let’s introduce the IKIGAI Network!
Users of the network break free from the centralized and siloed healthcare solutions that exist today. The following decentralized applications (dApps) have been built from the ground up with a new paradigm in mind:
Open Data Sharing + Open Source Development = OpenHealth
HealthOS: Like iOS to the iPhone, HealthOS allows the world’s 10+ million physicians and healthcare workers to discover and use IKIGAI native dApps. This operating system provides a set of intuitive tools and a one-click bridge to migrate from legacy systems into the world of OpenHealth.
IKIGAI Vault: Like ApplePay, the IKIGAI Vault allows global citizens to consensually send and receive data with the tap of their mobile device or simply sharing their QR code.
Decentralized EMR: Complete data sovereignty is achieved for physicians who wish to secure and manage their own private keys. Like the vault, an IKIGAI native decentralized EMR system leverages the Verida framework to provide full agency for all IKIGAI Network users. Not your keys, not your medical records.
The powerful combination of HealthOS with the IKIGAI Vault enables doctors to adopt the latest in blockchain technology by simply doing what they do best:
“Doctor, your signature is being requested”
A digital signature by the physician secures and stores encrypted patient data. The doctor can then share data with a patient, by sending them data to their IKIGAI Vault. Finally, a second doctor can request access to the patient’s data who can consensually share it with them.
There are many benefits offered by this approach:
- Patients owns their health data and their health identity is anchored by public blockchain
- Patients can easily share their data across multiple practitioners
- Data is stored using the FHIR standard for seamless interoperability across systems (including centralised hospital systems)
- Health records generated by doctors are encrypted on their local computer for unparalleled security
- Health records are signed using the doctor’s public key to attest the data accuracy and origin
- Patients can control where their data is stored
- No health record or personally identifiable information is stored on chain
- Secure messaging can be extended to support doctor referrals with relevant health data and notes about the patient
The IKIGAI Network testnet is live and has already demonstrated a path towards open access to health care data in a consensual, permissioned and decentralised manner.
